About This Spot

Step inside O'Leary's Public House and you’re immediately greeted by the warm hum of a true neighborhood Irish pub tucked in the heart of Chicago’s lively River North. The atmosphere strikes a familiar, easy rhythm—lively yet relaxed—where locals and travelers alike come together over good conversation and the comforting glow of well-poured pints.

The space invites you to settle in, whether you’re drawn to the buzz of the bar or the steady comfort found at one of the many tables, inside or out. The pace feels unhurried but energized, like a spot where stories unfold naturally amid the clink of glasses and laughter. It’s a place where cheers erupt for a game on TV but never drown out the gentle connections between friends or the casual hello exchanged with the bartenders who know their regulars by name.

Food here feels like the kind of satisfying, no-fuss fare that complements a strong Irish coffee or a perfectly balanced martini. You might catch yourself savoring classics with a twist—rich, hearty sandwiches or crispy wings paired with thoughtfully chosen craft beers. The kitchen’s offerings mirror the pub’s spirit: approachable, generous, and made to be enjoyed slowly alongside good company.

The charm of O’Leary’s lies as much in its people as in its plates or pints. There’s a genuine warmth that comes through in the welcoming smiles behind the bar and the easy rapport among guests from far and wide. It’s a place where moments feel both comfortably familiar and open to the unexpected—a kind of local haven where everyone can feel at home, even if just for an evening.

My husband and I were in Chicago for a trip and needed a place to watch the Packers. This was perfect! The staff was great, especially Liv!

Visiting from out of state and wanted to try a local Irish Bar. Can't go wrong with this place and great whiskey selection

I had cranberry and vodka and he had an anti- hero draft beer. We got service right away. The vibe was very relaxing and fun. They do have food. the people next to us ordered a burger and fries and it looked good. I definitely want to come back and try their food. They have outdoor seating and a bunch of tables inside.

I was in Chicago for 2 days and this is the by far the best bar in Chicago. The owner is a Washington Commanders fan and he makes sure the Commanders win if you come here. The bartender is awesome because she sings Ke$ha and Burger King commercials during the commercial breaks to keep the vibe going. They let some Eagles fans inside, but that's OK.

We spent an evening here (travelled to Chicago from Cornwall, England) and had a fabulous time. Bartenders Kirsten and Chelsea were amazing--friendly and fun--and Gus at the door was kind enough to pass a message to a guy my friends had been admiring from afar!! He was married (sad times) but bought us a drink and stopped by to chat a bit...as did quite a few in the venue that night. As my friends and I had originally met in our own local pub back home, it was great to find an equally welcoming place in Chicago! Any negative reviewers must be antisocial and not familiar with the English/Irish practice of actually talking to people in pubs!! Definitely a 10/10 night out. We spent quite a bit there as we just couldn't leave! Prices were probably average, but less than we'd anticipated.
